Primary Library
The primary library serves students from Play School (2 year olds) to fifth grade. Each class has a fixed time during the week where information literacy skills are taught in conjunction with the classroom teacher, but classes may schedule additional time if necessary. Emphasis in Primary is basic library skills, development of the love of reading, and an introduction to the research process.
Collection development is ongoing at the Primary library, focusing on the units of inquiry for the PYP program. The current collection of 8,500 items features a large collection of Picture Books, as well as fiction and nonfiction for the older students. Primary students also have access to 15 magazine subscriptions for research and browsing. In addition, a growing collection of Mother Tongue materials are available for the language program.
Students in primary are encouraged to use the library before, after, and during the school day.
Throughout the year, the Primary library focuses on authors studies or celebrations of reading, including the “Cat in the Hat” day.
Primary students have access to the following online resources. Please see library staff for passwords.
