Information Technology
The school year has brought many exciting changes to the electronic infrastructure at AISL. Some of the more visible changes include a wired and wireless networked campus, a third computer lab equipped with cutting edge technology, and the allocation of computers to every classroom and office. However, the most visible change has been the enthusiasm seen throughout our campus as we explore innovative ways to use these new technologies to enhance teaching and learning.
The AISL campus wide network utilizes several servers. The Web/Email server acts as a filter for Internet content and helps to ensure that our faculty and students are receiving safe and efficient access to information through the World Wide Web. The data server allows the allocation of space for secure individual user accounts where information can be stored and retrieved from any computer throughout our campus. In addition, shared workgroup spaces have been created to foster collaboration between students and faculty. Our Folett Destiny server allows the campus to access all library resources.
The Primary and Secondary computer labs are each equipped with 21 Imac Intel computers, a laser printer, and a projector. These labs serve as classrooms where students receive regular skills-based instruction including the use of productivity and educational software, digital video and photography, typing, and web page design. These skills are integrated throughout our teaching practices in all subject areas with an emphasis placed upon the effective use of technology in learning as well as the implications that various technologies have within our global society. The Media lab has another 20 Imac/MacBooks and the library has 10 more iMacs. All classrooms are equiped with at least one multimedia computer for access to our Data Center for grades, lists, information, attendance, ordering, daily bulletins, IT support, room and equiment reservations. Video and Audio chatting have surpassed the ordinary phone for communications between and within faculty and students.
This is truly an exciting time at AISL. We welcome questions and suggestions as we explore the many possibilities for enhancing our educational programs through technology. Please feel free to email your questions and suggestions to Tech Support .
