Admissions Policy
The school believes in the principles of equality of educational opportunity, so every student, regardless of religion, ethnic or national origin or gender, be given maximum opportunity for educational development. The school strives for an educational environment that places great emphasis on individual attention and instruction; that seeks to stimulate and encourage each student’s intellectual curiosity and discipline, and that fosters in each student a sense of self-worth and responsibility for his or her own work.
The Admissions committee, which consists of the Director, the Admissions Administrator, and the Principals, along with the Special Needs Coordinator, Counselor, and IB Diploma Coordinator if relevant, will determine who may be admitted to the school in accordance with the following guidelines.
- The School does not discriminate on the basis of religion, ethnic background or gender.
- Admissions decision will be compatible with the school’s mission to serve the educational needs of the American and international community in Zambia and the long term interests of the school.
- The school will admit children of US Government employees or contractors on assignment to Zambia, provided that they do not require special assistance which the school is unable to provide.
- The school will give preference to children who are US citizens resident in Zambia, or children of US citizens resident in Zambia.
- The school will give preference to children who are siblings of children already enrolled at the school.
- The school will only admit students who have potential for success in the program. Students who have special needs or where English is not their first language will be admitted provided that there is an appropriate program for their needs.
- The school will only admit students where they feel the family has the ability and likeliness to meet the tuition requirements.
As many of the classes are full early application to the school is essential, and the provision of all the requested paperwork is needed before a place can be offered at the school.
