SECONDARY => Academic and Entrance Tests => SATs

SATs

Most 4-year colleges in the USA, and many institutions in other countries require SAT scores.

  • You should make a schedule of SAT testing with the counselor. You can begin taking SATs at any time from S2 (Grade 7), but it is recommended that you take SATs for the first time during S6 (Grade 11).
  • You need to register for the SAT I and SAT II yourself by the deadline, and take the tests on the dates stipulated on the Entrance Test Calendar.
  • Register and practice for the tests on-line at: www.collegeboard.com. (Test Center Number: 80441).
  • On-line registration requires credit card payment.
  • Postal registration and US$ checks are accepted. Forms are available from the college counselor. (You must still meet registration deadlines.)
  • You are strongly encouraged to attend the SAT test preparation course offered at AIS as an afternoon activity, and conduct your own preparation.
  • SAT I and SAT II tests are taken at AIS, but they cannot be taken at the same time.
  • If necessary, SATs can be taken up to three times.

Some institutions require that you take SAT I and two or three SAT II tests. If you are considering applying to such a college let the counselor know and she will help you to draw up a testing schedule. You cannot take SAT I and SAT II tests on the same day. Careful planning is, therefore, required.

SAT I: Reasoning Test

SAT I is usually required for admission to US (and some Canadian) colleges and universities. It measures the verbal (literacy) and mathematical reasoning skills you have developed over many years both in and out of school.

SAT II: Subject Tests

SAT II tests provide information about your achievement in specific subjects. Some colleges and universities in the US and Canada require SAT II scores form one or two subject tests. Check with individual institutions for specific course requirements.

SAT II tests currently fall into five general categories; English, History and Social Studies, Mathematics, Sciences, and Foreign Languages.

  • You cannot take SAT I and SAT II tests on the same day.
  • You can register to take one, two or three subject tests each time they are offered.
  • Certain subject tests are offered on certain testing days. Check the SAT II calendar to ensure tests are offered during the month you wish to take them.

SAT Preparation Courses

Each semester a SAT preparation course is offered as part of the afternoon activities program. The course is taught by AIS teachers and covers all aspects of the new SAT I test.

If you plan to take SATs you are encouraged to attend and to engage in your own personal study through the College Board on-line practice site.

SAT II preparation books and exercises are available on-line. If you need help with this, please contact the college counselor.
