US Equivalent Grades and IB Points
The IB System is well accepted and understood by colleges and universities throughout the world. The table below is intended as a guide for you and your parents to better determine how your grades compare with the US grading system.
Many college and universities require that your GPA is based upon your grades from S4 (Grade 9) onwards.
In the IB MYP and S6 - S7 years you are graded currently through numerical scores of 7-1 for each subject. Use the general formula overleaf to roughly translate your IB MYP and S6 – S7 grades to US equivalents:
1. Calculate your grade total by adding all your grades together (S4 to present, if possible).
2. Divide the total by the number of grades used to make up this total find the average.
3. Compare your grade average with the equivalencies presented below.
As the IB Diploma program is a rigorous course of study, many US colleges and universities may top-up your GPA if you are taking this course. A college might award, for example, an additional 0.5 points to your the GPA.
