The AISL Model United Nations (MUN) Club is an opportunity for students in grades 7-12 to assume the role of a diplomat and attempt to solve world problems during a simulated U.N. session.
Students research an assigned country's political policies, history, and culture, develop their writing skills, and practice both informal and formal public speaking and debate. The AISL MUN Club is politically neutral. It is not a U.N. supporters club and students are encouraged to think critically about U.N. policies, procedures, and structures.
Students are also challenged to represent various national policies that they may personally disapprove of during the simulations. Everyone dresses up in Halloween costumes, there is a pumpkin carving competition, and the car park is full of decorated cars for the “trunk or treat” event. The older students also run a haunted house for the younger students. This is one of the PTA’s main events of the year.
