Welcome to the aisl guide to the ib extended essay

The intent of this document is to provide IB Diploma students at the American International School of Lusaka with a comprehensive guide to writing the IB Extended Essay. This guide includes relevant sections taken from the International Baccalaureate publication and also contains several good websites designed for assisting students in the writing of research papers. These sites were found on the IBO Online Curriculum Centre.
The AIS Guide to the Extended Essay also contains many “bits and pieces” that have been adapted to meet the needs of the students at AISL, but have come from other successful IB Diploma Coordinators and teachers all over the world.
A very special thanks to Sharon-Boule- Woods, IB Diploma Coordinator at the International School of Beijing, for sharing her Extended Essay files and exemplars.
We would also like to thank Kelly Kraft, our AISL Library Director, for her insight and input. This booklet would not be possible without her assistance and guidance in the methods of research, citing sources, and the correct way to write a bibliography. Her time is certainly appreciated.
Although beginning the Extended Essay may feel a bit overwhelming, this guide should help students to approach their research in a systematic and organized way. Good luck with this important endeavor!
