Welcome to Grade 4
Welcome to Grade 4 at AISL where students and teachers work together to create an environment where all students are actively and purposefully engaged in learning. The teachers in Grade 4 are dynamic, experienced in the PYP and the school’s curriculum and dedicated to furthering the development of each student in their class. With class sizes of no more than 18-20, students are encouraged and supported to develop an international mindedness necessary in today’s global world.
Throughout the year, the teachers and students engage in different units of study including peace and conflict, body systems, electricity, religions, explorers and the concept of supply and demand. All social studies and science topics for the year are covered within the above mentioned topics. Language arts and math are authentically incorporated into these units where possible and as stand alone subjects where overlap is difficult.
As learning is balanced between the intellectual, social and physical at AIS, students in Grade 4 also attend special classes. They receive two 45-minute sessions of Performing Arts, Physical Education and Information Technology each week. Visual Arts and Library meet weekly, V.A. for an hour and Library for 45 minutes. French is another vital part of the program and students attend three 45-minute French classes every week.

To parents of children entering Grade 4:
In addition to the classroom supplies that we will provide for your child’s use at school, please have your
child bring all of the following supplies next year. All supplies should be brought to the classroom by
the end of the first week of school. They will be stored at school, ready for your child’s use.
***Please ensure that all items are clearly labeled with your child’s name.
Some of the supplies on the list can/should be purchased at the PTA Shop, and are usually cheaper than the
local price. Should you wish to pre-order your supplies, obtain a form from the front office, fill in the form and deposit it into the PTA box in Reception. Your order will be ready for pick-up as of Monday, August 11, 2008.
