Specialist Classes

As learning here at AISL is balanced between the intellectual, social and physical, the specialist subjects are an important part of the program. All classes from Play-School to Grade 5 receive part of their education from single subject teachers who are specifically trained as “specialists” in the subject they teach.  Single subjects taught by specialists include French, Performing Arts, Physical Education, Visual Arts, Information Technology and Library. These teachers are energetic, experienced in the PYP and the school’s curriculum and dedicated to furthering the development of each student they teach. As part of the team committed to the education of the students at AISL, the specialist teachers encourage and support the development of students in all areas not just their area of expertise.

Each single subject has its own curriculum at AISL. This curriculum includes specific knowledge and skills needed for students to develop in each subject specific area. The curriculum also documents concepts, skills and attitudes that while are subject-specific also directly relate to units of inquiry that are taught throughout the year in the different classrooms. Specialist teachers work collaboratively with classroom teachers to ensure that the curriculum is covered in a way that engages the students while reinforcing the development of the whole child.
