Student Representative Council
The American International School Student representative Council (SRC) organizes recreational events for the secondary school, contributes positively to the entire school community, and is actively involved in charitable courses to help people in need within the local community. The SRC consists of a President and Vice-President (chosen from grades 10 – 12) and thirteen class representatives. The responsibility of these students is to foster school spirit, and to represent the views of the upper school to staff and/or administration.
The twelve class representatives run mini campaigns within their respective classes, and after being elected, hold the positions of junior officers to the council. Their role is to support all S.R.C. undertakings and to facilitate communication between their respective classes and the council.
Activities undertaken by the S.R.C include sports pep rallies, teacher appreciation day, movie nights, school dances and spirit weeks. The S.R.C also helps the PTA with their events and is involved in projects to help the Lusaka community.
The S.R.C. provides an excellent forum for young leaders to develop their skills and serve the community.

Requirements of the High School Diploma
The minimum requirement for students who have been enrolled at AISL since the ninth grade is to accumulate 23 credits distributed among the academic departments listed in section 2b.
A credit is earned for the successful completion of one course, delivered for one academic year. A half credit (0.5) may be earned for each single semester course completed successfully.
Students must also demonstrate active commitment to the school’s community and service programmes. In Grades 9 and 10 this is participation in the MYP Community and Service programme, and in Grades 11 and 12 completion of a minimum 100 hours of Creativity Action and Service.
The minimum graduation requirements for students who have transferred to AISL after the commencement of Grade 9 include:
- Full-time attendance at AISL for two consecutive semesters prior to receiving an AISL High School Diploma.
- Enrollment in 6 subjects (Grades 11 and 12), and all component subjects of the MYP (Grades 9 and 10).
- Successful pro-rata completion of the CAS programme(s).
Transfer students are permitted to transfer credits from their previous high school. The value of credits will be determined by the ‘academic council’ and based upon information provided on the academic transcript and, if necessary, by the student’s previous high school principal/counsellor.
A Certificate of Attendance may be granted to students who have completed four years of high school, but who do not meet specific academic requirements for the AISL High School Diploma.

National Honor Society
National Honor Society is a US-based organization that “promotes recognition for students who reflect outstanding accomplishments in the areas of scholarship, character, leadership and service”. AISL became a chartered member of NHS in 2006. Currently Ms. Kirkpatrick (KP) is the Faculty Advisor.
Our first induction was held in February of 2007. Soon after, officers were elected and we are currently well-run thanks to the efforts of all of our members including: Sarah Barnhart (President), Eliza Morris (Vice-President), Hana Passen (Secretary), Zoë Frangeskides (Treasurer) and Nina Kranz (Member).
Students in grades 10 – 12 are eligible for membership. Induction ceremonies take place in February and membership is offered to all students who have a cumulative grade point average of 3.5. After becoming a member, students are required to maintain academic standards, provide service to the school, and uphold high standards in character and leadership.
Being a member of NHS is an achievement and is highly recognized by US and other universities. At graduation, NHS members wear a special cord, to recognize and honor this achievement.
