Hey Guys!

7 years ago I had very little swimming experience, and the club I joined was just starting up. I lost every event and the club never won anything. 7 years later, the AIS Torpedoes are a powerhouse in the ZASU League, winning most local swimming competitions and we make up a majority of the Zambian National Team every year. I am a Zambian National Record Holder in several events and the Co-Captain of the Torpedoes and Zambian National Team. I have been lucky enough to be selected to compete in various international events, such as The FINA Swimming World Cup (04-05, 05-06 and 07-08), the CANA Zone 4 competitions (previously known as The Sub Saharan Invitational) since 2002 and the Zambian Invitational (since 2002). Swimming for the Torpedoes, although hard work, is fun and an experience I’ll never forget.

Go Torpedoes!!

- Lauren Graybill, Class of 2008
The Torpedoes are like a family, each person different but the diversity is what makes one another so special. We have the most fun and are willing to try something new. There is no other club who has any swimmer who will wear fishnets and stockings for warm up. There are a number of Torpedo swimmers who do. The family feeling of this club is amazing and really special. If you are a swimmer who is moving to Zambia and looking to continue swimming at a competitive level, think about joining the Torpedoes. Being a Torpedo is a life time experiance that you will never forget.

Let the good times continue and the fishnets be brought out again for the remainer of the season!!
Hi!

Hi, my name is Patricia, I am 15 and I’m a member of the AIS Torpedoes. I first began swimming competitively when I was six and have been in the pool everyday since. I’ve been with the team for the past fice years where I’ve slowly watche dhte team build in size, strength and spirit. When I first joined the AIS Torpedoes I was 10 and wasn’t new to the idea of training or racingf. Evven though the coaches and other swimmers were very supportive and helped me learn their system. Their main focus was to get me to be the best I could be, but at the same time to make it as enjoyable as possible. The training is great and the support the swimmers have from parents, staff, coaches as well as each other is never ending. Thanks to the AIS Torpedoes my times and standard in swimming have improved so much that I have been able to represent Zambia in international swimming events such as the FINA World Championships and FINA World Cup. It’s great to be a member of the AIS Torpedoes and I would encourage others to come and enjoy the fun!

I loved swimming from an early age. I used to swim for my school, Kabira in Uganda and the Equator club there. I was fortunate enough to represent Uganda in the 2006 and 2007 Sub-Saharan (which is tiny in comparison to Zambian’s squad!).In 2007 Uganda only won 2 medals the entire gala and I was fortunate to be one of them. However, my family and I then moved to Ghana where there was no competitive swimming. Thankfully we only stayed there for a year and I was lucky enough to move to Zambia and be part of the Torpedoes. My two favorite strokes are butterfly and freestyle and I really enjoy competing and being part of a fun, motivated squad again!

Hi!

Hi!
My name is Jessica Schurz. I’m 11 years old and have been swimming for the Torpedoes for almost four years. My best stroke is backstroke and my best race is definitely 200m back. I’ve made it into the Zambian Invitational twice sine I’ve been swimming for the Torpedoes.
My other hobbies besides swimming are playing the piano and volleyball. I have an older brother, Timothy, who is 14.
I enjoy swimming and will watch myself improve for the rest of the season.

Hi!

I am 11 years old and have been swimming for the AIS Torpedoes for nearly five years. I love being part of this team because we are a close fun unit and we have a lot of team spirit. My favourite stroke is backstroke and my favourite event is 100m backstroke. My goals are that I will compete in the next Cana zone to be held in South Africa in January 2009. I would also like to break the Zambian 50m butterfly and backstroke records. I love swimming because there is lots of competition and you get to challenge yourself. Swimming also keeps me fit and love my friends who I have made in the squad and meeting new people at all the galas.

Hi!

Hi my name is Hannah and I have been swimming with the Torpedoes for two and a half years. I am 11 years old and I was born in Zimbabwe. I think the Torpedo team is such a great team because there is so much team spirit, its really well organised and we have a lot of fun especially at the galas. I loved representing Zambia in Malawi in January 2008 and I would like to be a swimmer when I grow up! I love being in the water and I think I could spend my whole life in water!

My goal is to set the record for the 200 metre Individual Medley.

Hi!

I like swimming because I love water and it is fun. I like being in the torpedoes team because I like being fit and strong. My goal is to improve my time at least by 15 seconds in the all strokes. In 2008, I am aiming to reduce my time by 25 seconds in 50 m breaststroke. Till I join AIS, my favorite stroke is freestyle, but now I like breaststroke as well. My least favorite stroke is back stroke.

Hi!

I hope that, next year, I get to be in an A League Gala.

Hi, I'm Cameron Mackintosh and I am boys captain of the AIS Torpedoes team. I joined the Torpedoes three years ago. Before that, I lived in Uganda and swimming was not a major part of my life and I didn't really have any specific goals. But when I joined the Torpedoes, I enjoyed it a lot and soon became very committed and dedicated to the sport. I have drastically improved my swimming since joining the Torpedoes. Swimming is one of the few sports that I am actually relatively good at and I enjoy it because it helps me forget about the day's stresses and the discipline required to train so hard makes me better academically as well . My long term goals are to eventually get selected to swim in the Olympics for South Africa in the freestyle. There are several time barriers in the freestyle that I want to break - for example, under 25 seconds for 50 freestyle and under 4 minutes for the 400. My time with the Torpedoes has been great and I have been proud of being part of the team and swimming has brought me new friends and experiences that I will never forget.
Torpedoes - you rock!
