What I am excited about this week...
1. ISAZ Teachers Teaching Teachers Conference! AISL hosted the Independent Schools' Association of Zambia (ISAZ) conference on February 11 and it was a great success. Open to all ISAZ schools, this conference is the premier professional development experience of the year for independent schools in Zambia. I am honored to report that AISL teachers ran about two-thirds of the workshops on offer. These workshops are a great opportunity for AISL to show leadership in Zambia and give back to the community. Many thanks to the large volunteer planning team made up of teachers, administrators, and support staff from AISL, LICS, ISL, and Baobab. Many thanks also to all our AISL teacher-presenters and for our administrative and support staff who ensured that the event ran very smoothly.

The Grade 4 Performing Arts Assembly |
This past Wednesday, our Grade 4 students, together with our Grade 5s, shared their talents through music, dance and poetry. The Grade 4 students shared that, with Valentine's Day being last Tuesday, "love makes the world go around" and through their song, 'Round and Round', they asked the audience to think about, "What makes your world go around?" The students also explored that we can communicate our wish for peace and harmony by using the power of music as they sang "Shalom Chaverim & Tumba, Tumba". In honour of Martin Luther King, Jr.'s famous quote, "Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that", the students sang, 'This Little Light of Mine'.

Author Visit |
This past week we were lucky to have author John Coy on campus working with our secondary students. Since John is a young adult sports fiction specialist, he not only worked on story writing with our kids, but also worked with them in Physical Education classes. We appreciate the great learning experiences John led during his week with us on campus. A special thanks goes to our librarian, Terry Maguire, for arranging the visit.

ISAZ Sports Conference |
AISL hosted the 2nd ISAZ sports conference last Saturday. It went very well, with over 40 PE teachers/coaches in attendance. Sessions were offered in Rugby, Netball, Cricket and Hockey followed by a national sports meeting. A big thank you to all the presenters and volunteers who helped pull off this great event.
