Mother Teresa once said, “If we have no peace, it is because we have forgotten that we belong to each other.” On April 28, we will be hosting our 30-year anniversary celebration coinciding with WorldFest Day. This is a day to celebrate the school’s diversity, peace, and our shared humanity. While the world outside of our school walls may seem topsy-turvy at times, we will continue to try to shape the world as we want it to be, a place where all nationalities, races, genders, and cultures appreciate one another and enjoy the variety of perspectives and flavors that we bring to each other’s’ lives. It is a time for equality and a time to demonstrate how each member and culture within the AISL community is greatly valued. AISL models peace and understanding through our diversity. It is our differences and our ability to respect them that make us great. I offer the following videos as way of showing how much diversity and the appreciation of humanity means to us.
Poetry is one way through which we can express ideas and feelings through the use of a distinctive style or rhythm. Beauty and intense emotions are qualities often observed in poems. Zambia and her beautiful natural environment can provide great inspiration for poems. We invite Kindergarten through Grade 5 students to enter our "Poetry Around the Pond" contest. More details are available in the flyer. See Ms Mandy or Ms Chye for more information.
It was a lovely community event on Friday afternoon as families gathered on the lawn outside the library to enjoy an afternoon picnic followed by a movie. A special thanks to our Primary Student Council, Ms. Jenn, and Ms. Redman for organising a fun-filled afternoon for our Primary students!
The PYP Exhibition is a significant event in the life of a PYP school and student, synthesizing the essential elements of the PYP and sharing them with the whole school community. As a culminating experience it is an opportunity for students to exhibit the attributes of the learner profile that they have been developing throughout their engagement with the PYP. (From PYP Exhibition Guidelines)
On Wednesday, 26 April, Grade 5 students will share the results of their inquiries into the central idea: "Through expression, our creativity and ingenuity can change the world." They are busy preparing displays, reports, songs, dances and works of art and are excited to share these with AISL students, faculty, parents, and the Year 6 students from ISL. Please join us for this celebration and culminating event. .During the evening we will have live music from Nomkanjani and Pink Blues, Dinner, and Dancing. A cash bar will be available to purchase drinks throughout the night.
The committee is also busy putting together a silent auction to support the AISL scholarship program - If you have any items you are willing to donate for us to auction of please contact 30years@aislusaka.org. Tickets are limited so please buy soon. Tickets are available at the main office and the Friday market or alternatively you can email to reserve your tickets (all reserved tickets must be collected and paid for by Wednesday 3rd May) This is a busy week for our Secondary Students with many of them involved in ISSEA events across Southern Africa!
