At AISL, we believe learner success goes beyond academics as we strive to develop the 'whole child' through our programming. The International Baccalaureate learner profile describes human capacities and responsibilities that go beyond academic success; as such we promote and develop these attributes in our students. The attributes are embraced not only by the students, but by all members of the AISL community.
To promote the attributes of learner profiles within the AISL community, we hold an annual photo competition. This year we received entries from primary and secondary students, parents, teachers and, for the first time, an alumna. The twelve winning photographs will be included in a 2017-18 wall calendar, including AISL's whole school events. The calendar will be available in the school store after the start of the new school year. We would like to thank everyone who submitted entries. These photographs showed how we show a broad range of human capacities within and beyond AISL's campus. The panel of judges were impressed by the quantity and quality of pictures entered into this year's competition. Below are the winning photographs. Students in the primary school wrote poems and students in the Grade 10 Visual Arts class illustrated them. Below are the winning designs that will be displayed around the primary pond, hopefully before the end of the school year. We are proud of the students for the care they put into their writing and illustrations. Participation in this joint primary/secondary project was not required, rather students voluntarily shared their creativity to add beauty to our school campus. We hope you will take a moment to stop by the pond and view this collaborative artwork. Please keep the AISL Library & Discovery Center on your list of places to visit over the June / July holiday! To check out resources a patron needs to be returning to AISL for the 2017-18 school year and needs to have a clear account from the current school year. We will be open primarily Wednesdays & Fridays according to the following schedule:
Wednesday June 28: 9-12 Friday June 30: 1-4 Friday July 7: 1-4 Wednesday July 12: 9-12 Friday July 14: 1-4 Wednesday July 19: 9-12 Friday July 21: 1-4 Wednesday July 26: 9-12 Friday July 28: 1-4 Saturday July 29: 9-12 Hope to see you here! What I am excited about this week…
As the school year winds down, please take a moment to thank someone on our staff. The AISL team works very hard all year to provide great opportunities for our students. Teachers work long hours and the grading, coaching, or chaperoning duties on evenings and weekends are the norm rather than the exceptions. Overnight trips bring with them the burden of extremely high levels of responsibility and accountability, 24/7. Teachers love teaching but it is a much more difficult job than most people realize. Furthermore, the administrative staff works hard to remove obstacles and pave the way so teachers can do what they do best. Like any school, AISL is a complex organization. It requires a large team of dedicated individuals to keep it running smoothly. Please take a moment sometime in the next two weeks to thank at least one member of our hard-working staff in person or in writing.
And while I am at it, let me thank you, the AISL parent community. I have been truly grateful for the trust and support you have shown me in my first year as Director. Educating children is a team sport and I am thrilled that we are working together to nurture and support the students at AISL to help each one achieve his or her highest potential. Thank you! Well done to our kindergarten students this morning as they shared their creative talents through storytelling, creative writing, painting, drawing, dancing, and singing. Their interpretation of The Lorax was original, with each child contributing to the story in multiple ways. We also had an opportunity to recognise their transition from ELC to Grade 1 by giving each of them a certificate. Thank you to our kindergarten teachers, Ms. Diana and Ms. Claire, as well to Ms. Natalie for making this morning a special one. Thank you to our families who were able to stay for the end-of-year celebration, marking an important moment in our kindergarteners' school journey. Below are some highlights from the morning captured by Ms. Claire.
