This past Friday, our PTA organized a spectacular Trunk or Treat community event, something that we have not been able to experience to its fullest for a few years. There was so much excitement that included trunk or treating, games, the Monster Mash dance, great food and a Middle School social. Thank you to our PTA, the Trunk or Treat parent planning committee, our teacher volunteers, and our high school student volunteers for making this event possible. Below are a few highlights from the evening.
As we come closer to the vacation, many of you will be thinking of ways to manage, monitor and reduce screen time for your children and possibly yourselves! There are several ways that you can 'control' or 'oversee' and there have been a number of LT posts and parent presentations over the last year or so and can be found here on the Parent LibGuide (same password as the Parent Portal). Here's where we summarise them in one slightly longer post!
Be the Parent
The most important thing to remember is you are the parent: Ultimately you are in charge; you make the decisions and you set the boundaries so:
Take Control
As a parent, you have the opportunity to support at home and even ‘manage’ the child’s devices. If you want more control of the child’s device then try using the Screen Time feature in ‘Settings’ (full, detailed instructions) to manage Downtime, App Limits, and Content & Privacy with all of the limitations that you want for your child. Here you can
Managing Screentime
During an informal session last year, Tony Potts, our Primary Assistant Principal and whole school Tech Integration Specialist shared strategies for managing screentime. Click on the links below, and also navigate to the Screentime Parent LibGuide, to find more resources, links and useful information especially collated for our AISL parents.
The Effects of Electronic Screen Time
Ms. Chantra Reinman, our Student Services Director, also shared a presentation (included below) about the science behind the effects of screentime earlier this year.

WorldFest at AISLusaka has always been a very special event & after three years of restrictions, it was great to get back out there with over 60 nationalities represented! The day included the Parade of Nations, cultural activities, a food festival and an outdoor assembly with the theme, “We Come Together in Peace”. Thanks to the WorldFest Committee, our AISL PTA, parents, faculty & staff for a wonderful event. Below are some of the moments captured on the day.
The grade 12 DP Visual Arts students recently displayed their artworks in the Palm Pavilion. Parents, teachers and friends attended an opening reception where the students showcased the wonderful work they did during the course. Click through the slideshow below or follow this link to view the slideshow showcasing their artwork. Congrats to the AISL DP Visual Arts class of 2022! Well done!
The Parent Portal (password protected - aisl2022) is packed with information for both new and long-time parents at AISL. If you are looking for information on any of the following, the Parent Portal is the place to go.
As always, at this time of the year, it is time to update the password in order to access the Parent Portal. Please refer to the Leopard's Tale newsletter for the updated password! On the Parent Portal there is a wealth of information including the following:
All of our new books from the spring 2021 order have arrived and are on display on top of the bookshelves. Look for the NEW stickers on the book spine and come check some out some fresh reading material. Also, if you have a new book that you've recently read which the library doesn't own, we have already started our wish list to purchase in the spring of 2022. So please send your book recommendations to us at kshumlansky@aislusaka.org or lsinyenga@aislusaka.org. It's good to share our book love. To help our teens grapple with issues that they may be curious about but are reluctant to discuss, we have started a self help book display which is currently at the entry of the secondary library. This display will be moved to a less conspicuous spot once students are aware of its existence and the contents will be rotated every few weeks to showcase new titles and/or fresh topics. High school student volunteers will be helping the library staff to choose which titles and topics to display.
My name is Quinn Wells, and I am a 10th grade student here at AISL. Every tenth grader here has to do a personal project about something they're passionate about, and I chose to do something that included dancing. My idea was to put together dance classes for less fortunate kids in another school because from my experience, dance can bring joy to so many people and let them express themselves in different ways. I would like to reach out to some people about doing these classes, and I was wondering if anyone had any connections to other schools in our community or knew anyone who has these connections. Thank you very much!
