American University, DC, USA After a campus visit, interview, and a long month of waiting for an admission decision, Vaughn has learned that he has been accepted by his FIRST-CHOICE higher education institution: American University in Washington, DC. AU’s renowned School of International Service has admitted Vaughn into their Class of 2026 to study for a Bachelor of Arts in International Studies. Vaughn has accepted this offer. AU’s School of International Service (SIS) is a top-10 school of international affairs. Since its founding in 1957, it has answered President Dwight D. Eisenhower's call to prepare students of international affairs to "wage peace”. SIS does so because it believes the world needs leaders who are ready to serve. SIS is guided by 115 full-time faculty including leading political scientists, economists, sociologists, anthropologists, demographers, geographers, historians, and experts in international development, global health, communications, energy, and the environment. Faculty produce transformational research and prepare more than 3,000 graduate and undergraduate students for global careers in government, nonprofit organizations, and business. Drawing students from all over the world (11.8% are international students), SIS has the largest faculty and most comprehensive curriculum of any school of international affairs in the United States. With its Washington, DC, location, and a multidisciplinary approach that combines theory and practice, there is no better place for Vaughn to build his global career of service. The BA in International Studies will afford Vaughn an opportunity to find his truest vocations, to discover his passions, and to become an active and engaged citizen in a complex global world that defies simple explanations or solutions. SIS faculty and courses will help Vaughn to develop further a critical intellectual disposition and expanded moral imagination, enabling him to think critically, creatively, and independently about important international issues, which will help him to collaborate to shape the global future. In the third year of the program, Vaughn can elect to specialize by selecting a ‘Thematic Area’ such as Justice, Ethics, and Human Rights or Global Inequality and Development. He can also elect to study a regional area in depth. Housed within the School of International Service, the Office of Career Development supports the school's juniors, seniors, graduate students, and alumni through all stages of career development. Its mission is to create innovative, collaborative, and effective opportunities for career education and mentorship to prepare students for life after college. www.american.edu Early Decision Plan Vaughn applied to American University under the university’s Early Decision Plan. This was a binding agreement, demonstrating that AU was Vaughn’s first-choice university. Under this plan, Vaughn must now withdraw all applications to other universities and colleges.
