 University of Twente, Netherlands Alex is the first member of the Class of 2022 to receive an acceptance from a university for study beginning in the Fall next year. He has been accepted to study for the Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. This is a programme that is taught in English. Students who take this course are eager to create technological solutions that make a difference in societies. They dream of being an expert in inventing, designing, improving, and maintaining all kinds of machines, constructions, and processes. They aspire to engineer: roller coasters, aeroplanes, future energy installations, innovative hearing aids, or the hinges for a robotic hand. In this programme students learn all the scientific theory and skills as well as how to apply mechanical engineering in practice. The University of Twente has a strong commitment to the application of learning and actively helps students to cultivate their versatility and resourcefulness. In every module, students and their project teams tackle a real-life, practical problem. This helps them to get in step with the latest scientific knowledge and possibilities, and to build a solid foundation for their future in mechanical engineering. It also helps students to discover which team role, or combination of roles, best suits them (e.g., researcher, designer, or organiser). The programme fosters international-mindedness. Students come from the Netherlands, other parts of Europe and from around the world, and staff members hail from countries such as India, Pakistan, Iran, and Spain.
