College News Last week, two universities communicated their acceptance decisions to Marmik. Utrecht University, Netherlands Utrecht University has offered Marmik a place to study for the Bachelor of Science in Economics and Business Economics, taught in English. This degree course takes a broad view of economic issues: the real-world perspective. It examines the needs and objectives of people and organisations in our complex society, and what choices they make in order to fulfil those needs and achieve those objectives. To examine these issues, students analyse economic issues using insights drawn from other fields such as Geography, Law, Social Sciences and Applied Data Science. Founded in 1636 and located in the heart of the Netherlands, Utrecht University is one of Europe's leading research universities, recognised internationally for its high-quality, innovative approach to research and teaching. www.uu.nl Maastricht University, Netherlands Marmik applied to Maastricht University to study for the Bachelor of Arts in European Law. His application was approved. In this programme, students examine legal problems from a comparative and European perspective, rather than focusing on the solution given in a single legal system. They study both EU and international law. Working in small groups on relevant real life topics trains students in essential legal skills such as problem-solving, legal reasoning, pleading and writing. In addition, the programme provides opportunities for vital skills such as active listening, collaboration, analytical and critical thinking. This prepares graduates to work as legal professionals at a regional, national and international level, both in the private and public sector. With further study, graduates can also gain access to the regulated professions such as, lawyers or public prosecutors. Maastricht University (UM) is the most international university in the Netherlands and, with more than 20,000 students and 4,400 employees, is still growing. The university distinguishes itself with its innovative education model, international character and multidisciplinary approach to research and education. www.maastrichtuniversity.nl Cardiff Metropolitan University, UK Rosie is now holding another acceptance to study to become a primary school teacher. This is from Cardiff Metropolitan University in Wales. Cardiff Met was recently awarded The Times Higher Education University of the Year 2021 award. The award recognises Cardiff Met's achievements throughout the 2019/20 academic year and the ways in which the University has established itself as a progressive values-driven university with an excellent student experience, staff culture, and impactful research and innovation. The compassionate leadership and proactive approach to managing the impact of the Coronavirus pandemic were also highlighted as features of Cardiff Met's outstanding performance. The BA (Hons) course aims to prepare student teachers to be highly-skilled, confident, critically reflective and innovative practitioners who are committed to life-long professional learning and the education of young people. The University of Sheffield has accepted Rajman’s application to study for the Bachelor of Arts with Honours in Geography. The University of Sheffield is a member of the Russell Group of leading UK research universities. Its outstanding performance for excellent teaching and research, as part of a genuinely global community, is consistently confirmed by international independent assessments. In addition, the University’s Students' Union has been voted the best in the UK four years in a row by the Whatuni Student Choice Awards (2020, 2019, 2018, 2017). The human geography course explores the relationship between people and the planet. Students learn how to tackle key global challenges such as climate change, poverty and inequality, geopolitical uncertainty, urbanisation and food insecurity. www.sheffield.ac.uk York University, Canada York University in Ontario, Canada, has accepted Khizar’s applications for two separate degree courses: the Bachelor of Arts in Digital Media and the Bachelor of Arts in Computer Science.. For the third year in a row, York University has been ranked highly by the Times Higher Education (THE) Global Impact Ranking, which ranks universities on their work towards the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This year, York has placed 11th in Canada and 67th overall against 1,115 post-secondary institutions from 94 different countries. Digital Media - focuses on the study of 3D simulations and animation, artistic theories and cultural impact. It inspires people with imaginative digital art installations or design of the next generation gaming technology. Using code and programming as tools for creative expression, digital media specialists develop original digital media objects and experiences such as mobile apps, immersive and 3D environments, data visualisation, interactive performance and more. Digital Media students learn about the raw tools that help create digital imagery and sound, including animation and 3D simulations. They also study larger concepts like artistic theories and the cultural impact of digital media on the world. Most importantly, they learn to create. Computer Science - from virtual reality and artificial intelligence to robotics, network databases and vision systems, computer science plays a big part in solving some of the world's greatest challenges. In this programme foundational knowledge and technical skills are blended to explore intriguing topics such as computer systems that mimic human vision or that mine data for useful information.
