Our Grade 11 DP Visual Arts students went on an actual (not a virtual!) field trip this past Friday to Chaminuka Lodge. Chaminuka is located near the international airport and offers the largest private collection of African art in Zambia. This was the perfect venue for a field trip because the lodge is open to the air and many of the art pieces are sculptures set throughout the beautiful grounds. Some students were gathering information for their Comparative Studies, one of the major assessments for DP Visual Arts, and others were researching specific Zambian artists for Visual Arts Extended Essays. The field trip presented an outstanding opportunity to learn about Zambian art, and there are even pieces in the collection by two of our AISL Visual Arts teachers: Ms. Laurey Nevers (Secondary School Visual Arts) and Mr. Mwamba Mulangala (Primary School Visual Arts). Chaminuka also has an incredible collection of traditional art that we were able to explore. We are all grateful to the Chaminuka staff for warmly welcoming our students for this wonderful learning opportunity. If you have not been to Chaminuka, it is well worth a trip!
