The Grade 10 MYP Visual Arts students have begun a unit focusing on environmental art. They are particularly interested in art that promotes a greater awareness of reducing one's use of plastics. To this end, they have invited any interested secondary students to participate in their Trash Challenge.
Natasha, Twange, Victor, and Zhizar, four Grade 10 Art students, presented the video, “Strawpocalypse,” during Assembly this past Tuesday to raise awareness and launch this campaign.
We invite all students to join the Grade 10 visual arts students in collecting their single use plastic trash (starting Friday 29 August until Monday 1 September). Please clean the plastic of any food or dirt.
The purpose of the project is to help people realise how much waste they create over a weekend, how much of that waste is single-use plastic, and how everyone’s waste adds up.
The visual arts students will share the photos at an upcoming assembly and continue the discussion about how we can reduce the amount of single use plastics and other waste we are generating.
Students will bring their bags of trash to school on Tuesday 3 September and will be photographed with it outside the visual arts classroom, Room K7 at the start of lunch (12:30).
Ms. Nevers also asks that students bring any bubble wrap, styrofoam, and plastic they have at home.  She will help the students use these items for an upcoming project in Visual Arts class.  There is a big box outside her classroom where people can leave the items.
