ISSEA 2019 Girl's Football Champions!

17/4/2019

Congratulations to the boys and girl's football teams, who competed at the ISSEA Football Tournament in Nairobi, Kenya, last week. The girls, led by captain Zena, were undefeated in their games. They beat the home team, ISKenya in the final match to clinch the victory. This was a rematch of last year's final. The key strength of this girl's team was the ability to move the ball quickly and pass, pass, pass. Samana was the lead scorer, making eight goals across the three days of play. Mia was a strong defender who aggressively pursued the ball every chance she had. Zena was a rock for the team, playing center and controlling the ball every time it came to her. Sara, the goal keeper consistently rallied to defend her goal and let in only a two goals the entire tournament. Madison's incredible speed and hustle left the opposing teams' players in the dust. Teyah was a cheerleader for the team on and off the field, setting a positive tone and energy for the entire tournament (also with excellent dance skills!). Diana's speed mesmerized the opponents as she blew by them. Haley's strength was being in the right place at the right time to score. Mathilda fought for every ball she could. Colette scored a goal off of a corner kick. Saniya had consistent passing and was able to control the defense. Both coaches Brian and K guided the girls to victory. The girls were also awarded the ISSEA Fair Play award, which is a testament to their poise on and off the field. Congratulations, ladies!
The boys team travelled with a young roster and came back confident and experienced, ready to tackle ISSEA football next year. Leaders on the boys team were Ruben, the captain, and Alex, who put forth enormous efforts to defend their turf. Ruben and Alex both played every single minute of every single game, without complaint and with focused determination. The boys were also incredible cheerleaders and supportive teammates for the girls, shouting and applauding from the sidelines in every game. Also great cheerleaders were parents: Frank, Katrina, and Paula!
