AISL lives the IB Mission Statement and responds to international events
The IB Mission Statement says the International Baccalaureate aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect. These programmes encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right. Grade 9 Individuals and Societies students are taking some time in recent classes to explore the Russia-Ukraine War. Students are building a historical understanding of the relationship between Russia and Ukraine, reading news reports, analyzing and creating political cartoons. Further discussion and lessons will connect with the current unit on trade. Pechersk School International (PSI) is an international school community that is based in Kyiv, Ukraine. They have created this helpful link for resources on how you can support people affected by the crisis. We have used materials put out by the Choices Program at Brown University as a framework. This Teaching With the News mini-unit can be found here: https://www.choices.edu/teaching-news-lesson/the-ukraine-crisis/
