Overcoming power outage challenges

25/11/2019

Over the past few months, many AISL families have struggled with the power outages off-campus. We are extremely privileged to have 24/7 back-up on campus but managing power, light, water and homework at home can be a real challenge! There are ways to overcome these challenges. We recommend that you involve your child in conversations about how they - and you - can proactively manage the situation!
Here are some tech-related tips/tricks and hints that we have collated from students, parents and teachers:
  • Be creative with lighting:
    • Install battery-powered push-lights under kitchen cabinets
    • Install battery-powered motion sensor lights in the bathrooms
    • USB chargeable strip lights are bright and effective
  • Think ahead regarding charging:
    • Have a selection of fully charged battery packs on standby
    • Charge up your devices at school/work
  • Have alternative internet sources
    • It's easy to tether to a phone or device - try having at least two internet providers in your home just in case one is down. For example, Hai for your home internet and MTN or Airtel for your phone.
  • Prepare for those hot days and humid nights
    • Purchase solar or USB fans for each family member
Maybe this post will inspire you to add something to your Christmas wishlist... :)
