Dear parents, You will be pleased to know that this week I will be skipping the grand narratives and self-indulgent rumination and will be getting right to the point. We are gradually getting back to a feeling of normalcy. Sporting events are happening. Extended Essay Celebrations are happening. Plays are happening. All of these things are happening, not DESPITE our COVID measures, but BECAUSE of our COVID measures, and that is no small thing. So, in the interest of brevity, I will simply remind everyone to stay safe, be careful and to remember that we may see the light at the end of the tunnel, but we’re still IN the tunnel. Also, if you want to see more of our Duke of Edinburgh outing (which also happened, see below), you can join us for our Secondary assembly at THIS LINK at 8:55 on Monday morning. Thanks to you all. Have a great weekend! Dr. Rick Odum MYPService Learning: G8 Community Project One of our grade 8 community projects has seen one of our students create a food drive for a local school in Lusaka. It would be wonderful if you could contribute to this initiative. MYPGrade 6 produced fabulous artwork which was on display in the PAC this last week. Congratulations on your creativity! DP UpdatesPersonal Project: Some of our fantastic projects for 2021-2022We have some exciting projects on the go at AISL! Students have to identify a learning goal and a product goal and these have mostly been finalised. Students have planned their process and created criteria for their products. They have done some research and written the first part of the report they will need to submit to the IB. These are just some of the fantastic projects students are doing:
Personal and Social EducationOur Personal and Social Education (PSE) curriculum supports our students in developing their social and emotional well-being and is part of the Advisory program and classroom lessons. Our Grade 11-12 students have the following PSE lessons planned during Advisory lessons: Quarter 2 - Grade 12 No upcoming PSE classes. Quarter 2 - Grade 11 6th December: PSE #4: Sexual Assault, Abuse, Violence, & Harassment (Advisor & Counselor) Parents can reinforce learning at home by sharing what they know about these subjects. They can share their family’s, culture’s, and religion’s perspective on these aspects of Personal and Social Education. If you would like your child to opt out of any of these lessons, just send an e-mail to your child’s Advisor and make sure your child knows. If you have any questions, you can contact your child’s Advisor. The listed PSE lessons will be led by our Advisors, Counselor, and Biology teachers. Our Personal and Social Education curriculum integrates the IB’s beliefs about PSE together with the Guidelines for Comprehensive Sexuality Education 3rd Edition from the Sexuality-Information and Education Council of the United States in order to provide a well-balanced program for our students. You can find our Personal and Social Education Handbook here.
