Dear Parents,
We’ll the end is nigh, and, as always happens in Secondary, that means that the intensity increases. It’s a cruel irony that the point at the year when the kids (and the adults) are drawn the thinnest, is the point at which the most weight is carried. I read an interesting article the other day that looked at the reasons why people seem to be more tired, more exhausted, than usual. If you don’t want to read it (reading is tiring of course), the central thesis of the piece is that the past three years are still affecting us, and the fact that we have not had sufficient time, or sufficient sociocultural structures, for our parasympathetic nervous systems to recover. I think that’s really important to remember as we enter into a “post-pandemic” era. Just because the event is over, does not mean that the effects of that event cease. The effects of the past three years will echo for a long time, and it is essential that we reorient ourselves to both create ways to accomplish what is needed and to develop ways to do that in such a way that respects the physical and psychological realities of what “recovery” means in this context. Have a great weekend! Rick Odum Comments are closed.
