During distance learning, we're continuing to meet our Secondary students’ social and emotional needs through our Advisory program. We are offering synchronous lessons on Friday afternoons, Lusaka time, for Grades 6-10, and lessons as needed for Grade 11. Last Friday, 15 May, in lieu of PSE lessons, our Primary Assistant Principal and K-12 Technology Integration Coach, Tony Potts, gave Grades 6-10 grade-specific tutorials on how to solve technology-related issues. Topics included how to test your home Internet speed, Internet issues, ManageBac uploads, using DocScan, working with large files, using split screens on iPads, and managing various digital tools. Mr. Potts also shared the new Tech@AISL portal that he created to support students. A total of 74 teachers and students joined the technology tutorials. Below are some images from the tutorials. This week, our Advisory lessons will resume their focus on supporting students with the social and emotional skills they need to thrive during distance learning.
The upcoming Advisory topics are as follows:
The lesson topics were selected based on student, teacher, and parent feedback through our ongoing surveys. While the lessons may cover the same theme, there will be differences in content and delivery based on student grade levels. Our team is using student and teacher surveys to help us plan grade-specific content for each Advisory lesson. Advisory and PSE lessons will take place on Google Meets on Fridays at the following times (Lusaka time zone). The Advisory and PSE lessons are optional for students; students will be provided with the video link in case they cannot attend, but would like to.
Last week’s Grade 11 Advisory lessons focused on preparing students for the Extended Essay. Grade 11 students will continue with CAS, EE, and college applications lessons during Advisory lessons. Comments are closed.
