ISSEA TRACK & FIELD / CROSS COUNTRY AND VOLLEYBALL 2022

ISSEA Track & Field / Cross Country
The Leopards went to Nairobi with high hopes and came back with wonderful memories of many personal best times and new friends made. ISK was our host but they rented out 2 other venues and so the XC race took place in a beautiful forest preserve near the school and all of the track and field events on Friday and Saturday took place in the Kasarani Stadium which is a massive arena that seats 80,000. The starting blocks were digitalized, the end of each race had a photo finish which was displayed on the jumbotron screens and  the track surface was very springy and allowed for 12 new ISSEA T&F records to be smashed. It was an amazing sporting event to participate in and spectate and we wish you all could have been there with us.

The boys XC team finished 5th just one point shy of 4th place. Congratulations to Adam Munro, Liam O’Brien, Matthew Seaman, Ermias Habte and Niels Harsveld for completing the full 5 km course and earning our Leopards the best ISSEA place finish so far this year!

The girls T&F team came in 8th place overall and only had 4 members (the fearsome foursome) who competed mightily against teams with 11-14 girls. Notable mention goes to Sophie Munro for placing 7th in the shotput and 6th in the discus and the girls 4 x 100m team of Sophie, Giulia Agbodjakin, Val Warren and Anais Colas who came in 8th place.

The boys T&F team came in 6th place overall. Notable mentions to Vilmer Ekberg who came in 3rd place in javelin and 5th place in the 100m and 8th place in the discus, Cameron Glendenning who came in 8th place in the 100m and 8th place in the 110m hurdles, the boys 4x100m team of Kwame Acheampong, Raul Palmarola Torres, Vilmer and Cameron who came in 5th place, the boys 4x400m team of Adam , Ermias, Herman Nuwamanya and Liam who came in 6th place.

Volleyball
Last week, the boys' and girls' volleyball teams travelled to ICS to engage in some competitive games with international schools from ISSEA. This was the first time in a few years that our girls' volleyball team have taken part in ISSEA Volleyball, so the experience was both challenging and rewarding. Each team we encountered in the event was spirited and well-trained, so we were a bit hindered at first. Although we built up our confidence bit by bit throughout the tournament, we still missed the chances of winning our games. But how can you improve if you haven't experienced the sense of loss? After this ISSEA, our enthusiasm for volleyball has never been higher! Next season, we'll definitely improve to become a more skilled and spirited girls' volleyball team.

We can't wait to teach you our cheers in the assembly next week!

On October 26 we left AISL for Addis Ababa! Arriving in Addis, we were faced with a late check-in and an early start for the next day's volleyball. Seeing our team rise to this first challenge was inspiring. Our team, although we finished 6th overall, won our first game and played great versus the other schools, taking sets off of big schools like ISK! As the captain of this amazing group of guys, it's been awe-inspiring seeing the development of the team over the course of the ISSEA competition. We are far from the same players that we arrived as! But the ISSEA experience is never limited to volleyball. The friends and allies we made with other teams, like ISK & AISM, were just as much part of the ISSEA experience as the sport. Although a significant part of the team will be graduating this year,  I believe the team will be in good hands next ISSEA. I, for one, am expecting big results from next year's squad!

A huge thanks to our teacher-coaches and coaches, Ms. Kim, Mr. Sydney & Mr. Andrew (Track & Field), Mr. Mrak and Mr. Mwansa, Ms. Fiona and Ms. Tila (Volleyball).

GOOOOOOOOOO LEOPARDS!!
