Thank you to everyone who made this happen. ISAZ Football/Soccer U19 National Qualifiers As the Primary were preparing for their second performance on Saturday afternoon, up on the main field, the competition was fierce for the U19 Girls National Qualifiers. In a very exciting final against LICS, our girls won! At the same time, our boys were at Baobab and also won in a penalty shootout. Both teams, along with Chess, who have also qualified, are headed to Chengelo during the break next week, for the National finals. Congratulations to them. Transition Visit This week the incoming Primary Principal, Mr Joe Buscemi, was on campus. Thank you to the parents who came to meet him for coffee this morning. He is very much looking forward to joining our community. NHS Ceremony Last night at 7.00pm in the Pavilion, the AISL Chapter of the National Honors Society (NHS) held its annual inauguration ceremony. The NHS was established over a 100 years ago in the US and remains a beacon of intellectual rigor, a celebration of service, a paragon of leadership, and a champion of character, which are the four pillars. The following students were inducted into the society last night: Adam, Kwame, Siena, Yannick, Lauren , Elias, Xiaolin , Daniya , Aditya Arjun and Sade. Congratulations to them and we look forward to seeing their leadership blossom and their service to others continue. We also acknowledged our departing seniors for the impactful work they have done whilst being member of the NHS: Vilmer, Gaia, Darya, Gelila, Scott (out-going Parliamentarian), Manav (out-going Treasurer), Shaina (out-going Secretary), Quinn (out-going Vice President), and Salvi (out-going President). Thank you and Congratulations to him. SOAR Survey Thank you to those who took the time to complete this survey. Tomorrow is International Women’s Day 2024 International Women's Day is celebrated around the globe tomorrow. This year's theme is “Inspire Inclusion”. The goal is to “inspire others to understand and value women's inclusion” for a better world. National Youth Day Next Tuesday is another holiday here in Zambia as the country recognises the importance of the youth in the development of Zambia. Here’s to safe travels over the break. Happy Women’s Day for tomorrow and, to our Zambia colleagues and families, wishing you a joyous Youth Day next Tuesday. The first week back will be busy with Three-Way Conferences and, for now, I wish everyone some extra family time with loved ones. It is what life's all about. With kind regards, Dr. Oli Tooher-Hancock Director Our Class of 2024 has just completed a major milestone in their IB journey: completing Mock exams. Students were off-schedule for five days, completing 1-2 exams in each examinable courses. Because Mock exams are run exactly according to IB regulations, students and faculty members had the chance to experience and practice all the procedures for the real exams in May. After the last exam, we celebrated together with snacks and drinks (non-alcoholic of course), and then the Seniors enjoyed a Holi celebration water and paint fight hosted by our Senior Spirit Committee. Enjoy the photos below from the festivities! Binghamton University, NY This week, Athina received her first acceptance from a university in the United States. She has been accepted to attend Binghamton University State University of New York to study for the Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. Binghamton University’s business administration program prepares students for successful careers. Consistently ranked as one of the best public business schools in the nation, the School of Management ensures that students learn the soft skills, such as teamwork and communication, and technical skills needed to become leaders in an economy driven by disruption and innovation. Through experiential learning opportunities, including case competitions and project courses, students explore the challenges of decision-making in complex contexts and situations, and learn how to develop innovative solutions that are considerate of legal, environmental, and societal factors. The curriculum is enhanced with analytics requirements to ensure that students are able to interpret and communicate data-driven discoveries. Students can complete a concentration in number of areas, including marketing, finance, and business analytics. www.binghamton.edu

Primary Student Walking Club This week it was my turn to be with our Primary students who choose to walk and run around the track before school. This is an activity introduced some years ago and it gives our learners the opportunity to move and be in the open air with their friends before classes begin. It was a lovely experience and made for a great way to start the day. I encourage everyone to ‘walk and talk’ with friends around our track! It is good for the soul. Winnie The Pooh The Primary thespians have shown resilience and determination with a ‘the show must go on attitude’ as they prepare to show their talents in this week’s play. So, even though they missed a month of in-person rehearsals for their play, it is still happening on schedule tomorrow and Saturday, both at 14:30 in the theater. It is set to be a magical performance and there is no charge to attend. Hope to see many of you in the audience! WorldFest - Change of Date When we set the date for the WorldFest over a year ago, we did so without realizing that Ramadan was occurring at the same time. Following consultation with our Muslim families, we have decided to change the date to Friday, 19 April. More details will be out regarding the structure of the day nearer the time. PTA News Last Friday, in their final meeting as Co-Chairs, Sarah Bickers and Fiona Cole, ran the AGM of the PTA. This in-person and online meeting outlined all the achievements of the Board in the past year as well as hosting elections for a new Board. They certainly have worked tirelessly behind the scenes to bring the community together in so many different ways. A huge thank you to Sarah Bickers and Fiona Cole who stepped up as Co Chairs in November. Thank you to the outgoing PTA Board: Fiona and Sarah alongside Anna Giebels, Stephanie Melching, Miyuki Sato, Laura Lever, Lourdes Liceaga, John Shumlansky, Divine Ngomba and Carlos Villalba. We will acknowledge them publicly at the upcoming PTA event, the Circus Soiree, on 5 April. And welcome to the incoming PTA Board 2024-2025: Chair - Fungai Sandamu-Gueldemann Treasurer - Dan Hunt Secretary - Charlene Samaras Communications Officer - Stephanie Melching Primary Coordinator - Yasmine Ahmad Secondary Coordinator - Laura Koivu Community Coordinator - Divine Meande New Families Coordinator - Ines Onyango Congratulations to them! Fee Letter for the School Year 2024-2025 Last Friday we sent out the information regarding the fee structure for the next school year. Here it is, for any who may have missed it. The ISSEA Trips return Not without some ‘drama’, as the Band and Choir group had their flight canceled from Nairobi to Lusaka, so were delayed in their return. All students on the trip behaved exemplary and, for those delayed, they showed an incredible amount of resilience and patience in a difficult situation. The final performances on Saturday evening, which were streamed, were of an exceptional standard and we trust that our students of Visual and Performing Arts and the Band and Choir will have long lasting memories of their experience with other ISSEA students. Wishing everyone a lovely weekend and gooooooooo Winnie the Pooh!!! With kind regards, Dr. Oli Tooher-Hancock Director A huge congratulations to all of our young actors this past weekend as they put on two stellar performances of Winnie the Pooh. Despite the challenges that the cholera closure presented, the students sought out alternative ways to keep practicing their lines, get fitted for costumes, and learn their stage cues despite a month less of stage time. It was so lovely to see the famous childhood stories come alive through their creative interpretation of the characters, the stage set that provoked imagination and the vintage costumes that reminded us of these stories written long ago. Thank you for Ms. Carolyn, Ms. Jill and Ms. Natalie for orchestrating the whole process. Below are a few highlights from the performance.
