This past Tuesday morning we had a nice turnout at the information session about assessment practices in the Primary School. Parents shared their experiences with assessments and asked thoughtful and relevant questions which guided our conversation. Examples of questions included:
At AISL, we define assessment as ‘the gathering and analyzing of information about student performance and program effectiveness’. It identifies what students know, understand, and can do at different stages in the learning process. Assessment is integral to all teaching and learning. It allows students to understand what they know and what their next steps might be. Also, it provides teachers with information to appropriately differentiate instruction and to track progress over time. Through feedback on assessments, parents understand their child’s relative strengths and weaknesses and how to best support them at home. For specific questions about your child’s progress, please contact your child’s teacher. For general information about assessment practices, please contact our PYP coordinator, Chye de Ryckel. More information is also available online in the Assessment and Reporting Guide.
