2016-2017 Co-Curricular Program Highlights

1/6/2017

This has been a great year for our after school activities/co-curricular programs. Those who attended our Sports Awards Ceremony last week got to see a very large table full of trophies, plaques, and awards and a wall full of banners.  For some reason, AISL has long had an undeserved reputation in town for not being good at sports. I believe that this year’s results (as did previous year’s, by the way) thoroughly dispute that notion!

If Mark Hoffman and Christine Moono seem busy, it might have something to do with these numbers:
  • There was an 89% participation rate of students taking part in afterschool activities
  • We averaged 74 after school activities per week per session
  • We fielded more than 60 (!) teams across eleven sports this year
  • We increased participation by girls in sports and are now fielding full teams in almost every age group
  • Our teams participated in 2-5 sports competitions almost every weekend, many of which were hosted at AISL
  • We introduced two new sports- secondary rugby and netball
  • We are now actively and successfully taking part in every ISAZ and ISSEA event offered
  • We co-founded an additional sports league to provide more games: Lusaka International Schools League (LISL)
  • We won 5 ISAZ National Championships: Girls Volleyball, Boys Volleyball, Girls Basketball, Boys Basketball and Girls Soccer – out of six we pursued.
  • We won 2 ISSEA Championships: ISSEA Rugby and ISSEA Golf -we were the only ISSEA school besides AISJ and ISK to win any ISSEA championships.
  • We had 4 ISSEA Top 3 Finishes
  • We won 4 ISSEA Fair Play Awards
  • We won 18 ISAZ Midland Regional Championships so far
  • We won 4 LISL Championships
  • We won 11 Invitational Tournament Championships
