AISL Remembers His Excellency, Dr. Kenneth Kaunda, the First President of the Republic of Zambia21/6/2021
AISL stands with the nation in mourning the loss of His Excellency, Dr. Kenneth Kaunda, the First President of the Republic. A friend of the school, we were blessed to have many visits from Dr. Kaunda over the years, including at the opening of our Tiyende Pamodzi Theater in 2009, graduation ceremonies, and other special events. He even attended the final match of our Saturday Soccer series one year, waving his signature white handkerchief as he cheered on our young athletes and children from local schools. At our Zambia Day celebration in 2019, we were honored to be led by Dr. Kaunda as we all sang “Tiyende Pamodzi” (click here to view). A commitment to education was always a priority for Dr. Kaunda, who was himself a teacher before he became a politician. Dr. Kaunda served as a teacher and headmaster of the Lubwa Mission near Chinsali where his father had also taught. When he became this great nation’s first president, establishing education for all was one of his primary objectives, in addition to creating healthcare and economic opportunities. Our community extends its deep condolences to the Kaunda family during this sad time. We are grateful to have known this extraordinary man, who has left an important legacy. Comments are closed.
