Bus Safety

13/9/2018

As you already know, we take bus safety very seriously. We work hard to ensure that our buses are in excellent mechanical condition and that our drivers are trusted and well-trained. Beyond our own internally-managed training on first aid and transport procedures, our drivers have all been trained in the Smith System of defensive driving. Many thanks to the U.S. Embassy for its support with that training.

As an additional measure, we have recently installed a vehicle tracking system in each bus. Not only does this allow us to track the location of all our buses in real time but it also records speed limit violations, harsh cornering, harsh braking, accidents, and other data. This data has allowed us to take a leap forward in ensuring student and driver safety in our buses. We are also piloting onboard cameras that will provide views forward and into the cabin.

We take bus safety very seriously, so, as always, if you see one of our buses driving in a way that you feel is unsafe, be sure to let me know. Since our buses are unmarked, please make sure to write down the vehicle registration number.  This helps us ensure that the bus in question is actually one of ours since we often get reports that turn out to be other buses.

On that note, please be aware that a speed camera has been installed near the school on Leopard Hill Road. Due to the presence of our school and Naledi School across the street, the speed limit as you approach and pass in front of the school is 40 kph. For everyone’s safety – and to avoid a hit to your wallet – please drive slowly and carefully.
