Before we headed into our midterm break, the Grade 2 students welcomed their parents to school for their first Celebration of Learning of the year. As part of their Who We Are unit of inquiry, the students shared their learning about exercise, nutrition, a growth mindset, and other factors which affect our wellbeing. From dancing to headstands to a healthy picnic together, it was a wonderful morning for both the students and families.
From Friday, 27 October, parents with children in G3-G10 will be able to access their child’s Student Profile from the recent NWEA MAP Growth Assessments. The report can be found under the ‘Portfolio’ tab in ManageBac. Should you need any assistance in accessing your child’s report on ManageBac, please contact Janke Lindeque in the Primary Office (primaryoffice@aislusaka.org) or Mache Adonis in the Secondary Office (secondaryoffice@aislusaka.org). For any follow-up conversations pertaining to your child’s report, please contact your child’s subject teacher to arrange an appointment. Thank you. Please take a moment to check out the new PSE Resources for Parents by logging into the Primary Parent Portal under 'Quicklinks'. There are resource pages for three important topics: emotional regulation, positive psychology, and transitions. More topics will be added throughout the year, so watch this space! Please feel free to contact our Primary Counselor, Ashleigh Meyer-Charara (acharara@aislusaka.org) for more information. Thank you to everyone who joined us for our parent information session on assessment and reporting. There was some really great discussion as we shared our approaches to assessment in the Primary Year's Programme. Here is the slideshow for those who were unable to attend. If you have any questions or if you would like suggest a future topic for a parent session, please email our Assistant Principal/PYP Coordinator Simone Lieschke slieschke@aislusaka.org
This is an exciting time of year when our Primary students have the opportunity to sing, recite, dance, demonstrate magic tricks, tell jokes, play the piano, drums or guitar and demonstrate some martial arts. All of these amazing talents were showcased at our annual Primary Talent Show this past week. It was wonderful to provide one performance for our student audience and a second performance for our families. Thank you to everyone who was able to come. We would also like to thank Ms. Carolyn, our Primary Performing Arts Teacher and Ms. Laurence, our Primary French Teacher, for putting the show together. We look forward to next year!
Integral to students’ learning is understanding where they are now and their next steps. To support this understanding, data collection through formal and informal assessments is essential to all teaching and learning in the PYP. Please join us for a Parent Information Session on Tuesday, 3 October from 7:30-8:30 in the Protea Room to learn more about how we assess learning in the Primary Years Programme. This session will share how we gather evidence of student learning and use that data to inform instruction in the classroom. Simone Lieschke, the Primary Assistant Principal/PYP Coordinator, and Darlene Huson, the Deputy Director/Primary Principal, will jointly be leading this session.
The afternoons of Wednesday, 4 October and Thursday, 5 October will be dedicated to Student-Parent-Teacher Conferences (G1-G5) and Parent-Teacher Conferences (ELC-KG). This is an opportunity to learn about and be part of your child’s progress so far this year. For students in Grade 1-Grade 5, the conference format will be a three-way Student-Teacher-Parent conference focusing on specific learning goals. Please make sure your child attends the conference time. In this half-day format, all students will attend regular classes in the morning on the 4-5 October. School dismissal will be at 12:00 on both days and there will not be any co-curricular activities on these days. Conference bookings will begin at 13:00 and conclude by 17:00 on both afternoons. In addition to a conference with your child’s homeroom teacher, all specialist and student support teachers will be available on both afternoons for additional conferences. Conferences will be scheduled for 15-minute slots and will be held either on-campus or virtually. This will be your choice as a family. Please select a conference time with your child’s teacher(s) by placing your child’s name in the box on this sign-up sheet. Once you have inserted your child’s name, please click the drop down option to indicate whether you will be attending the conference on campus or virtually. For any virtual conferences, teachers will set up a Google Meet and invite both parents. For families with students in G2AM and G4AVH, alternate conference slots will be communicated because the teacher will not be available for the designated times above. Ms. Andrea and Ms. Anne-Marie will be attending the AISA Conference during these dates. If you require any assistance, please reach out to Janke Lindeque, our Primary Assistant, at primaryoffice@aislusaka.org. Thank you. The Primary PE swimming unit will begin on Monday, 2 October 2023 and will end on Friday, 15 December, 2023. Please take note that students from ELC-G5 will swim during their regular PE days/times according to the class schedule. For swimming, please pack the following in a small bag remembering that all items need to be labeled: Swimsuit Swim cap - this is a MUST have for all students Towel Sunscreen/cream Goggles (optional) only IF students are certain they will use them No flotation devices are necessary Students must come dressed in their PE uniform and appropriate shoes even if they are swimming during the lesson. This is so that they are ready to participate in a “dry” PE lesson in the event that swimming is canceled (e.g. due to weather conditions). In the event that your child is not feeling well (e.g has a runny nose), he or she will be excused from swimming activities. For any information/queries regarding swimming please send an email to kluwisha@aislusaka.org. |
