Wednesday, March 20 & Thursday, March 21 (12:45 - 4:45 pm) We are looking forward to our March Three Way Conferences which will be an opportunity for our students to share their learning, growth and next steps with their teachers and parents. As before these will be held in both the Gym and the Pavillion spaces in order to continue to spread out across the spaces. Please note that sessions have limited participants per grade level per session. This is to allow an opportunity across the four sessions to accommodate every student, as well as spreading families evenly throughout the four sessions so each family will have an opportunity to meet with each teacher. If you have multiple students in Secondary, please only sign up a maximum of two students for any one session, so that you have time to see each teacher. We will be sharing the sign up sheet in an email to all secondary parents on February 28th, and it will also be in Leopard’s Tale. Only families signed up for the session will have access to the teachers on that day. These conferences are intended to be opportunities for students to interact with both their parents and teachers simultaneously and demonstrate ownership of their learning growth. The conferences are:
Reminder that Grade 12’s are writing their mock exams next week. A detailed schedule is available here. Mock exams serve three purposes. First, because they run according to the IB’s strict protocols, they allow students and teachers to practice and understand what the May exams will look and feel like. Second, teachers can use the mock results as a summative (or formative) assessment for Semester 2, and as another data point to support the upcoming IB Predicted Grade. Finally, students reflect on their strengths and weaknesses during Mocks in order to better plan their revision for the May exams. Most students finish Mocks with a sense of relief, not only because the exams themselves are over, but also because it’s reassuring to know exactly how an IB exam feels. Any questions about mock exams can be directed to DP Coordinator Monica Murphy at mmurphy@aislusaka.org. This last weekend Ms. El-Murr and Mr. Shearer took part in a day long MUN advisory training here in Lusaka. This was incredibly exciting because it is part of action taken as a result of AISL holding the annual ZAMMUN conference for 9 consecutive years. The past has seen AISL lead student trainings for delegates, chairs and advisors. St. Ignacius visited us recently to observe a debate - there was a Leopard’s Tale article on this. Last year saw the Lusaka MUN community take action and create a countrywide ISAZ group. An executive committe has been formed on which Ms. El-Murr is the AISL representative. Many schools are now confidently hosting conferences and some schools have started attending international conferences. We are very proud of this contribution. Our next ZAMMUN AISL conference is on the 6 April and students have begun to prepare for this in earnest. Thank you to all parents who came to the MYP Information Session this morning, and for taking part in all the activities so willingly and enthusiastically. Interactive workshops allow you to better understand the MYP through hands on activities, conversation, and group work, and give you a sense of what it is like to be in the classroom as students. If you missed the session here is the link to the slides.
