The Chitenge is an often vibrant patterned African fabric worn traditionally by women as a wrap or a head dress. Boutiques sell designer Chitenge clothing including shirts, dresses, and skirts and some gifted tailors design and create fantastic pieces that could feature on international runways. The fabrics are used as baby slings, cushion covers, to cover furniture, for curtains and as table cloths. Many patterns carry a message.
AISL introduced the idea of celebrating our host country and culture through wearing Chitenge clothing on Tuesdays. Parents and students are invited to join the teachers in this celebration. Click here to read more about the Chitenge. Comments are closed.
