College News - Chris

5/12/2019

Westmont College, CA
Chris recently received his first college acceptance. This is to study at Westmont College in Santa Barbara, California. Chris will most likely double-major in Theater Arts and English Literature.

The Theater Arts major at Westmont aims to  help students to develop a broad and rich knowledge of the theater by studying acting, directing, dance, dramatic literature, history, technology, and design. Students learn and create in a faith-centered environment and integrate their faith into the study of the theater. Westmont’s theater professors and staff members, talented teachers, and artists, possess a great depth of professional experience and get to know their students personally. They work regularly in the theatre, and many have received major regional awards. Charles Donelan, executive arts editor of the Santa Barbara Independent, says, “If there’s a more sophisticated, exuberant, and consistently groundbreaking theater program in another small liberal arts college in America, I’d like to see it.”

English Literature majors explore various genres across various centuries. They investigate the interplay of form and content as well as the interaction of text and historical context. As they wrestle with the ethical questions implicit in texts, they examine their own assumptions. As students gain new knowledge of the understanding and use of the English language, they will view the expressive capacity of English, in all its complexity, as an invaluable gift of which they are to be faithful stewards.

Westmont College is an undergraduate, residential, Christian, liberal arts community, which cultivates thoughtful scholars and faithful leaders for global engagement with the academia, the church, and the world.

Westmont consistently ranks among the nation’s best liberal arts colleges with one of the most beautiful campuses in the country. The college prepares its students for a life of leadership and service while discovering how faith leads to deeper understanding.

Students benefit from small classes, engaging professors, and a caring, close-knit community. They can choose from nearly 100 academic programs (majors, tracks, minors and pre-professional programs) that prepare undergraduates for leading graduate schools or their first significant job.

Most Westmont students finish in four years or fewer; 96 percent of the class of 2017 were working or attending graduate school within six months of graduating. Westmont’s generous financial aid includes academic, need-based and talent awards; 96 percent of Westmont students receive assistance. www.westmont.edu
