Director's Update: The Gym is Closed for Renovations

1/2/2018

As of this morning, we have closed the gym. It will remain closed until the end of the renovation, which is scheduled for late June. Here are some related announcements:

  • The locker rooms (accessed from outside) and the secondary pool will remain open for regular student use for now. Later in the project, these may have to be closed for 4-5 weeks.
  • The Activities and P.E. staff have moved their offices to the space next to the nurse's station.
  • P.E. classes will take place mainly on the secondary field, weather permitting.

Although this creates inconvenience for many, I ask for your patience as we complete the renovation. The new gym will be a vastly improved space. Here are some of the changes we can look forward to:
  • The removal of "the wall" and the storage areas will allow us to install wall-to-wall flooring and will more than double the playable space from the current 475 square meters to more than 1100 square meters.
  • The wall-to-wall flooring will be a high quality sprung wooden floor.
  • Modifications to the roof and windows and the addition of more doors will improve air flow and help with passive temperature control
  • New LED light fittings will be brighter, more energy efficient, and will generate less heat (and be installed high enough for regulation volleyball)
  • The fitness room will be moved upstairs and will be larger
  • The fitness room and dance floor will be glassed in and air conditioned, and will provide nice views into the gym
  • The Activities and P.E. offices will be moved downstairs
  • There will be small adult locker rooms
  •  The "gym parking lot" will be converted into an attractive social space

Again, I appreciate your patience. It will definitely be worth it!
