AISL Diploma Programme students are engaged in many meaningful service projects and experiences through the IB CAS programme, including service right here on campus. Katie, a Grade 11 student, has created a series of experiences in the Creativity and Service strands working with the Primary school music students. Katie has given up free time during her day to work with new Grade 5 clarinetists this week. She did a great job of giving clear explantations and demonstrations of a variety of skills. Mr Illingworth, the music teacher described the scene, "I know they loved having a secondary student showing them the ropes!" Katie will continue to work with the Grade 5 clarinetists over the next few months sharing her skills and experience. Teyah, a Grade 12 student discovered leopard tortoises on her family's farm and decided to build a safe habitat for them for the cold winter months. The commitment to supporting the tortoises became one of her CAS projects. CAS projects are a series of experiences that last a month or more and can include Creativity, Activity, or Service. In this case, Teyah is providing community-based Service, which also meets one of the 7 Learning Outcomes of CAS, which is to demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance. Teyah is helping to protect wild animals, while doing service in her local community.
