As we begin to wind down the school year, we are bracing ourselves to say farewell to departing students, parents, and faculty. This year, eight of our teaching faculty are moving on. AISL is a better place thanks to their hard work and numerous contributions. Please join me in saying farewell and thank you to these excellent teachers:
Picture
Chye de Ryckel for her nine years of dedication at AISL. She has filled multiple roles across the years including being a homeroom teacher in Grade 2 and Grade 5, Enrichment Teacher, Math Coordinator, PYP Coordinator and Primary Assistant Principal. The positive impact she has made on the students, teachers and program is incredible. Her passion and love of learning is contagious and she has inspired those around her in many areas of the Primary program. Although we will miss her next year as she and her family embark on their new adventure at the Kaust international school in Saudi Arabia, her 'footprint' at AISL will always be remembered.
Picture
Diana Mutwale for her nine years of teaching here at the school in Preschool and Kindergarten. We will miss her passion, not only in her classroom with her students each day, but her creativity as our costume designer for our school productions year after year. She has also done great work co-coordinating our New Teacher Orientation Program and helping our new faculty settle into Zambia. We wish her the best in her new international teaching position in Lagos, Nigeria.
Picture
Carlos Gayete for his six years of teaching here as an MYP Language Acquisition and Physical and Health Education teacher as well as instructing our Diploma students in Spanish. We will miss the sound of his guitar after school as he gave flamenco guitar lessons to our students.  He will also be missed on the football pitch as our U10 and U14 coach. This year he led the U10’s to an ISAZ championship. We wish him and his family all the best as they begin their new journey in Spain.
Picture
Susan Bosse for her three dedicated years as a Grade 5 teacher and facilitator of the PYP Exhibition, the culminating experience of the PYP. We will also miss her leadership roles on various committees as part of organizing community events such as the Triathlon, Leopard’s Hill Race Committee, and AISL's 30th Anniversary Party. We wish her well next year as she dedicates time to be with her family.
Picture
Espérance Badogomba for her three dedicated years as our PYP French teacher. In addition to her nurturing style in the classroom, we also commend her for her involvement in the committees that supported the transition and expansion of our PYP modern language program. We wish her well next year as she dedicates time to be with her family.
Picture
Johanna Schooley for two dedicated years as our PYP Teacher-Librarian. As part of our team of librarians, Johanna has helped transform the library to include a maker space, a student-designed treehouse and a collaborative teaching model working closely with our homeroom teachers. She has also committed many hours to building our online database to support student research. We wish her well next year in her next adventure as a school teacher-librarian.
Picture
Chris Macdonald for his two years of teaching DP Economics and MYP Individuals and Societies. He also provided support and mentorship for our Model United Nations students, as well as many of our students in their Extended essays. We wish him the best of luck in his new post at the Mercedes Benz International School in Pune, India.
Picture
Cathleen Buckley for a wonderful year in Grade 3. Her dedication to AISL as a parent, substitute teacher, tutor, and Primary School teacher has had positive impact on the lives of students throughout the school. We will miss her unique trademark in her classroom, 'The Thinking Spot'. We wish her the very best as she joins her family in Nairobi, Kenya next year.
