Dear Members of the AISL Parent Association:

The AISL Board would like to thank all of the parents, teachers, and administrators who came out to our first “Meet the Board’ welcome back event in August.  Good conversations, good drink, and good food was enjoyed by all (including a few lurking kids!).

The Board wishes to continue its efforts to further improve communication with and participation from the Association and gather more input and have greater transparency  via events such as this. With this in mind we will now have “open” board meetings each month and the entire Association is welcome and encouraged to attend these meetings. We plan to hold open meetings from 18:00 to approximately 19:00.  We are hopeful this earlier time will better suit Association members.  On this – and all Board matters – we very much value parent feedback.

In open meetings, the Board typically gets updates on important aspects of school operations such as the curriculum, budget performance, upcoming events, or new initiatives. The Board is also apprised of upcoming decisions it will face such as construction planning and progress, policy updates, and other issues pertinent to the operation of the school.  In all of these type discussions,  members of the Association will be afforded the opportunity by the Board Chair to provide input into discussion items. The Board values this input. Once discussion items are closed and are brought to vote, whether at the same or a subsequent meeting, the Board members alone vote on decision items.

After open sessions, the Board will generally have a “closed’ session to discuss issues which are of a confidential nature, such as those pertaining to personnel.

The Association will continue to have the Annual General Meeting ( the AGM is primarily to present to the Audited Accounts to the Association) during first semester and the Extraordinary General Meeting (the EGM is generally for election of new members) during second semester. Dates for these and all other open Board meetings will be advertised in the Leopard’s Tale.

The Board intends to have regular representation at Tuesday morning parent information sessions as much as possible and will also plan another late afternoon social event similar to the welcome back event. This will give Association members further opportunities to engage with individual Board members and for the Board to increase its awareness of Association concerns and hopefully Association praise, where they feel the school is being successful.

As always, we very much encourage, welcome, and look forward to your input. This includes both positive feedback and constructive advice on how we can all further improve our fantastic school.

Sincerely,

Frank Monticello
Chair, AISL Board of Directors
