What I am excited about this week…

  1. Snake Safety!  Due to our location at the edge of town we periodically have snakes on campus. Despite the fact that the majority of them are harmless, their visit to campus generally ends badly for the snakes. In order to be truer to our commitment to the environment and to conservation, we have decided to take positive action. This weekend, one of Zambia’s resident snake experts, Jeff Lloyd, has generously volunteered his time to train several of our staff members in how to identify snakes and then safely and humanely relocate them. Many thanks to the team at Kalimba Reptile Farm who have agreed to let us practice capturing their snakes. I must say that this is one of the most unusual professional development experiences I have encountered but I am thrilled at the prospect of sparing the lives of our slithering friends.
  2. First PTA Meeting!  This year’s first Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) meeting will occur on Tuesday, August 29 at 07:30 in the Library and Discovery Center. All parents and teachers are welcome to attend. Please come be a part of our dynamic and supportive PTA.
  3. Library Open House and PTA Community Picnic!  Please come join this fun event on Saturday, September 2 from 10:00-13:00. This is a great opportunity to browse hundreds of new titles, to get to know our talented library staff, and to learn about all that our amazing Library and Discovery Center has to offer. At the same time, the PTA will be hosting a community picnic on the lawn in front of the library. More details will follow in the PTA newsletter and next week’s Leopard’s Tale. I hope to see you there.
  4. Secondary School Open House!   The best way to learn about our Secondary School program is to attend our upcoming Open House on August 31 from 17:00-20:00. This is a great opportunity to meet your child’s teachers and learn a little bit about each course. Be on the lookout for more information from our Acting Principal of the Secondary School, Kathleen Bowin.
