What I’m excited about this week...

  1. Scholarship Open Day! Each year, AISL offers up to two merit-based U.S. Ambassador’s Scholarships to Zambian students who show significant potential but do not have the means to join our school. These students join the school in either Grade 9 or 10 and their scholarship extends through their graduation from the IB Diploma Programme in Grade 12. On 29 January, more than 25 prospective candidates will be on campus for our Scholarship Open Day. This day is designed to orient them to our school so that they can decide whether they wish to go through the formal application process. Many thanks to our Scholarship Committee for their hard work each year in supporting this program.
  2. ISSEA Swimming, Basketball, and Rugby! Next week our ISSEA Swimming, Basketball, and Rugby teams will be competing in Tanzania, Zimbabwe, and Uganda, respectively. For those who are new to the school, ISSEA, which stands for the International Schools of Southern and Eastern Africa, is a sporting and cultural exchange league made up of eight international schools around the region. ISSEA operates eleven events each year, each one hosted by a member school. Each of these tournaments represents months of intense training for young people who are also committed to academics, service, leadership, and all other aspects of a well-rounded AISL education. I am always humbled by the dedication and energy of our scholar-athletes. Go Leopards!
  3. New (temporary) Tuck Shop in Secondary! Since we will soon be closing the gym for renovation, the folks at Sunflower Kitchens have set up their mobile kitchen near the PAC parking area. While I am sure there will be an adjustment period, I am confident that this new space will serve our Secondary School students well. When the gym renovation ends in June, we will return to the original Tuck Shop space in the gym.
