It was lovely to see our exam classes on campus this week. We continue to seek a possible exemption to open school in-person to all classes as soon as possible. This is a situation beyond our control and I would like to thank our community, again, for showing such empathy and understanding. I can assure you we are doing everything in our power! Our teachers are doing a stellar job, in very difficult times, with some of them now teaching a hybrid model where some of their students are on campus and some online. This makes scheduling and the pace of lessons complex. Please be aware that rumors continue to be prevalent. We are striving to filter out any misinformation and are trying to deal with the facts as they are confirmed. When we have information to share, we will. Our hearts go out to those who are truly suffering in our host country. May these circumstances ease soon, so that all Zambians can return to their normal daily lives and our school community can come back together again. Grade 3 Take Action Our service learning team have been meeting to ensure AISL is involved in helping those in the hardest-hit areas. Grade 3 have led and launched a donation drive. Please give as generously as you are able. Well done to our young learners for taking leadership and action, which is connected with their year long unit of ‘Who we are’ and how they can make a difference. ISSEA Teams Leave for their Tournaments. Despite the fact that our ISSEA Basketball, Rugby and Swimming were unable to train on the school grounds for the last two weeks, this week the three teams left for their respective tournaments in high spirits, eager to do AISL and themselves proud. Our boys rugby team left late on Tuesday night for IS Uganda and our swimmers in the early hours of Wednesday morning headed to AIS Johannesburg. The basketball players left at the reasonable hour of 10.00am on Wednesday morning, with their tournament taking place in IS Tanzania. All teams have arrived safely. The competitions began in earnest today and here are the links and schedules. We are supporting them all from afar! Gooooooooo Leopards. A parent shared a beautiful poem this week Please consider reading it with your children, if age appropriate. Today you are stubborn, My patience is thin Today you’ll persist Until I will give in Today you are wilful You’re strong and you’re bold Today you’ll refuse to do Things you are told Today you will follow Wherever I go Today you will scream When my answer is no Today you are fierce And today you are wild Today you’ll remind me That you are a child Today every minute Will seem to last hours But over the years I will realise your power I’ll realise your stubbornness Means you’re determined And I’ll admire how you have Learnt to stand firm and How you know when To sit down or step up So full of conviction, Self-worth and self-trust So today you’ll be stubborn Today you’ll be fierce Today you’ll have spirit That must persevere Today you’re determined Today you’ll be loud But tomorrow you’ll lead From the front of the crowd And where once you were wild I want you to stay I don’t want you quietened, Silenced or tamed ‘Cause yesterday’s bold Will soon one day I’m sure Be a force that our world Has not known of before And today you will talk Of the impossible But tomorrow I know - You’ll be unstoppable Becky Hemsley 2022 With kind regards,
