From the Director

What I am excited about…

  • MAP Growth Assessment Results! We have received the results of our latest round of MAP Growth Assessments for grades 3-10. Despite the disruptions of COVID-19 and the challenges of distance learning, our students showed growth in all grade levels and subject areas at a level that exceeded U.S. norms. Individual student results have been uploaded to ManageBac. Congratulations to all of the teachers and students for their dedication to teaching and learning in these unprecedented times.

  • PTA Quiz Night! Building on the success of last week’s quiz night, the PTA will be hosting another one on Tuesday, 24 November at 18:30 in the Palm Pavilion. Come challenge our reigning champs, The S Quad Squad, for the glory of taking home the trophy! We’ll have the braai ready for any team that wishes to “bring-and-braai.” Many thanks to the PTA for organizing these great community building events – and for using it to raise money for charity! The number of teams is limited so advanced sign up here is required (please put the names of all team members so we have a list for security).

  • Dynamic Learning Opportunities! As I have previously written, one of the aspects of our school that distinguishes it from many others is the wealth of local and international contacts that we can tap into to enrich our students’ learning. This week, the Grade 9 Individuals and Societies class was visited by the Commissioner General of the Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA), Mr. Kingsley Chanda, and ZRA Assistant Director, Mr. Laban Simbeye. Mr. Chanda and Mr. Simbeye shared information about how taxation and government spending can be used to fight poverty. This provided a fascinating opportunity to breathe life into these students’ inquiry into the causes and consequences of poverty around the world. Many thanks to Ms. Maguire and Mr. Cruickshank for organizing this great learning experience.
