What I’m excited about this week…

  1. Board of Directors Members Needed! We will be holding elections for the Board of Directors during their meeting on 16 April.  Please consider running for one of the four vacancies. To run, you need to be nominated by two members of the parent association (via a short form from Shantall) and submit a short biography that will be published in the Leopard’s Tale no later than 26 March. To learn more about being a board member, please read this.
  2. Bagpiping in Lusaka! Yesterday some of our classes had a fun visit from Ross Jennings, who is attempting to set a record for playing his bagpipe in every country in the world. Zambia is the 75th country on his journey. He had a fun presentation about his trip and the instrument itself – and there was plenty of music, including the Star Wars theme song!
  3. National Honor Society Induction! Congratulations to the newest members of our National Honor Society (NHS) chapter. They were inducted in a ceremony in the PAC on Tuesday. Membership in NHS is reserved for students who have demonstrated the highest levels of scholarship, leadership, character, and service. To earn membership is a significant achievement. We should all be proud of our new inductees. The guest speaker at the ceremony was mother, businesswoman, athlete, and long-time AISL friend Ngozi Asinga. She exhorted each of us to ponder this compelling question: what would be the title of the story we want to write about ourselves?
  4. PTA Election! Congratulations to our new PTA Officers: Laura Lever (Secondary Coordinator), Mpumi Kamenga (Primary Coordinator), Carolina Vilalva (Treasurer), and Mariana Boley (Secretary). The PTA is a critical element in maintaining AISL’s strong sense of community and we look forward to the leadership of the new officers. Also, please join me in thanking those officers who are stepping down: Mary Krafft, Nikki Zeravica, Deborah Chibonga and Jane Okafor. The PTA has been very lucky to have you!
  5. Triathlon! Thank you to the planners of this year’s Triathlon. Once again it was a smashing success. This is a wonderful community activity and is one of the highlights of the school calendar. It is also an important fundraiser for the Torpedoes. Many thanks to all who participated in the event and helped support the Torpedoes.
