What I’m excited about this week…
MYP Arts Night is TONIGHT – Thursday, 7 December! Please come and enjoy tonight’s MYP Arts Night on Thursday, 7 December. The MYP Visual Arts students will have an opening of their exhibition in the PAC Gallery from 17:00-18:00. This will be followed by the MYP Band and Choir Concert from 18:30-20:00 in the PAC. Don’t miss this fun celebration of the arts with our Grades 6-10 students. Santa’s Grotto! The PTA is deep into their planning for this year’s Santa’s Grotto, which will take place on Friday, 8 December in the Protea Room. This is a very fun event that provides an opportunity for our Primary School students to select a gift or gifts for their parents or other family members. Gift tokens for Primary School students are on sale at the main office. The PTA will also be holding a Christmas Market where Secondary School students can do some gift shopping. This will also occur on 8 December and will be on the C-block veranda. Please remind your secondary-school children to bring cash on that day. These are very large and complex events to coordinate and there is always a need for more volunteers. Please consider helping out for an hour or two on the day. To volunteer or learn more, please see the additional information in this newsletter or contact the PTA at [email protected]. Computer Science Education Week! Many thanks to the library and IT department for coordinating a series of events to celebrate Computer Science Education Week. This involved tours of our server room, dissecting computers, using our 3D printer, turning everyday items into musical instruments with Makey Makey, using Virtual Reality (VR) viewers, and so much more! Several of these exhibits will be available in the library this Saturday, 9 December. Please see the library section of this newsletter for more detail. ASA Music Recital! Our ASA musicians will be sharing their progress at our annual ASA Music Recital on 9 December from 16:00-18:00 in the PAC. Please come enjoy some great music and celebrate their hard work. Holiday Hampers! Our annual Holiday Hamper drive is underway. This is a fun AISL tradition where students bring in a small food item or two to help create a gift hamper for each member of the school’s support staff, including gardeners, bus drivers, security guards, maintenance workers, and cleaners. This serves as a recognition and thank you from the students and parents for all the hard work that these people do on a daily basis to keep the school running smoothly. The creation of these hampers is guided by the teachers in the lower grades and becomes a student-led project for our older students. Please send in a few small food items to support this fun project. I promise that if you could see all the joy and fun we have on the day the hampers are distributed, you would appreciate what a lovely tradition this has become. Please see your child’s teacher (Primary) or advisor (Secondary) if you need more information. School Holiday! School will close at noon on 15 December and classes will resume on Tuesday, 16 January. All offices will be close on 22 December and re-open on 2 January. Because we operate with a minimal crew during the holiday, facilities such as the pool, fields, and library will have limited holiday hours. See next week’s Leopard’s Tale for details.
