ISSEA Volleyball 2017! The ISSEA Volleyball 2017 tournament was a smashing success. Our boys won first place and our girls won sixth and the Fair Play Award. Please join me in congratulating the team and coaches for their excellent work. Six of the seven Directors of the other ISSEA schools were here and they all raved about the well-organized tournament and the warm hospitality of the AISL community. I am also grateful to everyone who came out to support the teams during their games. The energy and enthusiasm spawned by a large cheering and chanting crowd is a real boost to our athletes. To pull off such a large event requires a huge amount of extra effort from our staff. Many thanks to James Biggs and his maintenance team, Faith Dube and her transport team, Liz Cooke and her tuck shop team, Mike Mills and his security team, Martina van Vlaanderen and her support staff team, Nurse Jennifer and her medical team, and the secondary school office team. I also appreciate all the teachers and students who came out en masse to cheer on all the teams (not just ours). Many thanks to all the parents who hosted our visiting scholar-athletes. It is your hosting that makes this all possible. I am grateful for Paula Sachar for taking on the big task of coordinating our hosting. Finally, a huge note of thanks to Mark Hoffman, Christine Moono, and their Activities Department team for masterfully coordinating the entire event.
ISSEA Track and Field 2017! While ISSEA Volleyball madness was happening at AISL, the American International School of Mozambique was busy hosting ISSEA Track & Field and Cross Country 2017 on their campus. Congratulations to our girls Cross Country Team for taking gold and to our boys for winning the Fair Play Award. Congratulations and thank you to our scholar-athletes and coaches on tour Track & Field and Cross Country teams.
Trunk or Treat! Once again, our wonderful PTA is working hard to plan a great Trunk or Treat event on November 3. Please plan to participate in this fun community event. Better still, please contact the PTA and offer to help out. These types of events require a lot of volunteers to be successful. Please see the PTA section of this newsletter for more information and do not forget to buy your child’s Trunk or Treat wristband early.
Visiting Author Samm Farai! I am very excited to welcome our first visiting author for this year, Samm Farai. He is an award-winning Zimbabwean spoken word artist, political satirist, and activist whose passion and humor will surely engage our secondary school students. Please see the library section of this newsletter for more details.
