What I am excited about this week…
  1. 30th Anniversary Party! The 30th Anniversary Party was absolutely brilliant. Everybody I spoke to raved about the décor, the food, the memorabilia on display, and the entertainment. That the dancing went past 1:00 AM was a sure sign of a great party. It was fun to recognize a few special guests who have played important roles in the sweep of AISL history: Ingrid Sakwanda, who taught here for 28 years, Mark O’Donnell, a Board member for 13 years, and Sipho Phiri, a Board member for 15 years (and counting). Many thanks to the party committee for their hard work in creating such a special night: Mandy Ray, Anne-Marie Phiri-van Hooijdonk, Claire Potts, Diana Mutwale, Nikki Zeravica, Monica Carriles, and Susan Bosse.  Thank you also to Alta Conte, Natasha Chalikulima, and John Gomo for finding so much memorabilia from the past such as old photos and yearbooks. Thank you to Liz Cooke for the great dinner and The Fat Gecko for managing the bar. We also had great entertainment from Pink Blues, Nomakanjani, and DJ Bolddy. I wish you had all been able to see the amazing 80’s themed cake by Ms. Georgina Gruner. Finally, many thanks to all the parents and friends of AISL who came together as a reminder of the heart and soul of AISL: the wonderful people in this community.
  2. Wilbur and the Web! Don’t miss this year’s primary school play, Wilbur and the Web, an adaptation of Charlotte’s Web. The students have been working so hard on practicing their parts, please come celebrate and honor their hard work. Shows are in the PAC at 14:30 on May 19 and 20. Tickets are K30.
  3. IB exams – shhhhhh!  The IB Diploma Exams have started. Please wish the Class of 2017 luck as they face a series of difficult exams through May 19. Many of the exams take place in the Protea Room so I humbly request your assistance in being quiet in that area if the IB exam signs are posted. There will always be some background noise in any exam environment but please help us to minimize distractions.  Thanks in advance!
  4. Graduation is coming! We will be holding the commencement ceremony for our Grade 12 students on Saturday, May 27 at 14:00 in the PAC. This event is open to the entire AISL community. Please come join us as we celebrate this important rite of passage.
