What I’m excited about…

  1. Dear Edwina! Please come and enjoy the Secondary School musical production, Dear Edwina, next week. Shows are at 19:00 on 16 and 17 November and 14:00 on 18 November. Our scholar-actors have been working very hard on this production for many weeks. Please come out to show them your support.
  2. Trunk or Treat! Many thanks to the PTA for pulling together a wonderful Trunk or Treat event. I saw an awful lot of happy kids AND happy adults. Thanks also to everyone who decorated a trunk or helped out with the games for kids. These types of events help us to appreciate what a great community we belong to.
  3. Teachable Moments! Regrettably, our visiting author, Samm Farai, had to postpone his visit. He is a well-known Zimbabwean youth and political activist and founder of the Magamba Network. Unfortunately, as covered in the international news media, a young woman who works with his network was arrested for allegedly criticizing the government last week and Samm had to stay in Harare to fight for her release. Although we are disappointed, the Secondary School has used this situation as an opportunity to discuss the importance of freedom of expression and its tenuous state in many places.
  4. Model United Nations! Our Model United Nations (MUN) team is at a conference in Chennai, India this week. MUN is a great way to learn about current world issues and to practice debate, negotiation, and problem solving. Many thanks to Ingrid Turner and Michael Mee for chaperoning this trip.
