The hot season is definitely here and we must all be feeling the heat by now. Hot weather causes us to sweat more. Sweating is a normal way our bodies give out heat in order to cool down. However sweat is mostly water, which our body is losing and needs to be replenished otherwise we become dehydrated.
As a precaution, we want your support in taking all the necessary steps to be sun safe, to prevent dehydration and to avoid heat stroke. We want to encourage students to wear protective sun hats.  Please purchase one if you have not already done so and make sure your child wears it at all times when travelling to and from school.  As part of school policy, the hat will be needed when playing outdoors.
We want the children to start applying sunscreen lotion with a Sun Protection Factor (SPF) of at least 15+ before coming to school; particularly covering the areas of the face but not around the eyes.  For the eyes, using dark-shaded sunglasses with high UV protection is recommended.  UV rays from the sun are strongest from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Finally, all students must bring to school a water bottle labeled with their name. We want to get the children into the habit of having a water bottle with them at all times, and to encourage them to drink at least a litre of water whilst at school or more when involved in active sports.
Thank you for supporting our school and your child in promoting positive health habits.
